The Albanese Government is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Janet Torney as Chair of the Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation (CSC) Board for a term of three years. The appointment follows an executive search and open expressions of interest process for the role.

Ms Torney, who will commence in the role on 31 March 2025, has significant executive and non-executive experience across the banking and finance sector, including as Chair of the trustee boards of Perpetual Superannuation, ANZ Staff Superannuation and Club Plus Superannuation.

CSC has provided superannuation trustee and administration services for the main Australian Government civilian and military superannuation schemes for over 100 years.

Ms Torney’s experience and principles strongly align with CSC’s mission to be a trusted and valued partner of its members, achieving long-term investment objectives and guiding informed retirement decisions to give members peace of mind that their futures are in safe hands.

Ms Torney will replace Mr Garry Hounsell, who has served close to the maximum nine-year tenure of a CSC director permitted by the Governance of Australian Government Superannuation Schemes Act 2011

Quotes attributable to Minister for Finance, Senator the Hon Katy Gallagher:

“I want to congratulate Ms Torney on her appointment and have no doubt that her strong leadership skills and decades of industry experience will be highly valuable to CSC.

“Under Ms Torney’s leadership, CSC will continue in its commitment to helping members achieve the retirement that they deserve and have worked for.

“I wish the best to Mr Garry Hounsell and thank him for his service on the Board and for providing sound stewardship of members’ retirement benefits during this time.”
