The Albanese Government has delivered on its election commitment to boost gender equality and diversity in politics by announcing $5 million over 5 years to support the work of Women for Election Australia.

More than 4,000 women nationwide will directly benefit from this program.

Women for Election Australia will lead a group of partners to deliver this non-partisan program, including Politics in Colour, Australian Local Government Women's Association, Global Institute of Women's Leadership, Ruth McGowan Pty Ltd, and Quantum Impact Group Pty Ltd.

Minister for Women, Senator the Hon Katy Gallagher, said the non-partisan project will advance gender equality by enabling more women to enter public office at all levels of government and across the political spectrum.

“This funding will help enable a new generation of women across the country to enter public office, including those who might have never considered it as a career option,” Minister Gallagher said.

“Governments should represent the communities they serve.”

“Having more women in politics from diverse, under-represented communities will ensure more voices are heard on the policies that affect our nation.”

This grant funding is provided through the Women’s Leadership and Development Program Women in Public Office grant opportunity, following a competitive selection process.

More information can be found on the Office for Women’s website.
