Senator the Hon. Simon Birmingham
Minister for Finance
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment
Leader of the Government in the Senate
Senator for South Australia
Mr Stuart Whiley has today been reappointed as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ASC for a three-year term, as the organisation continues to play a pivotal role in the Morrison Government’s continuous naval shipbuilding program.
Mr Stuart Whiley has over forty years’ experience in the submarine industry, twenty-eight of which have been at ASC. Mr Whiley joined the ASC Board in 2010 and has served as CEO since 2014.
Finance Minister Simon Birmingham said Mr Whiley would continue to lead ASC as it continues to provide the Australian Navy with world-class defence capabilities and provide a long term pipeline of employment opportunities for Australians.
“Our Government’s continuous shipbuilding program, which ASC has a core role in supporting, will play a critical part in our economic recovery by creating thousands of local jobs, boosting economy activity as well as strengthening Australia’s defence capability,” Minister Birmingham said.
“Mr Whiley’s performance and strong leadership of ASC, together with his skills and significant experience in the shipbuilding and submarine industry will continue to be integral to the continued success of ASC.
“During his tenure, ASC has made significant progress including achieving its corporate financial targets, exceeding the Department of Defence’s targets for submarine availability, successfully delivering the Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyer program and leading ASC through significant structural reform.
“Mr Whiley’s reappointment will also ensure the ASC Board maintains stability, particularly as it continues to support Australia’s submarine enterprise in its transition from the Collins Class to the Attack Class fleet.
“I congratulate Mr Stuart Whiley on his reappointment, and look forward to continuing to work with him and ASC as they continue to deliver world-leading defence capabilities for the Australian Navy.”
