Government continued to deliver for Australians in productive end to the year
JOINT MEDIA RELEASE
Senator the Hon. Mathias Cormann
Minister for Finance
Leader of the Government in the Senate
Senator for Western Australia
The Hon. Christian Porter MP
Attorney-General
Minister for Industrial Relations
Leader of the House
The Government has continued to deliver for the Australian people.
In the final parliamentary session, we have passed more important reform legislation through Parliament, delivering on the promises we made at the election.
Repealing the Labor-Green backed Medevac laws, we have made our border protection and national security arrangements stronger again.
Australian farmers and other exporting businesses will benefit from three new important trade agreements with three key trading partners in Indonesia, Hong Kong and Peru.
Those agreements help our exporting business sell even more Australian products and services into our region, helping those businesses create more jobs here in Australia.
The Government stands ready to help communities ravaged by natural disasters get back on their feet faster by providing additional support through the Emergency Response Fund.
We have passed key legislation to target misconduct in energy markets, targeting anti-competitive behaviour and bringing down the cost of electricity for Australian households and business.
Reforms passed to the Farm Household Allowance are making it easier for drought-affected farmers to apply for and access support, including new payments beyond what is already available.
These important legislative achievements since 9 September build on what we had already delivered this year.
The Budget has returned to balance for the first time in 11 years and through careful management, we will deliver a Budget surplus without increasing taxes.
We have delivered tax cuts worth $158 billion for more than 10 million Australians, given vital support to farmers and communities affected by natural disasters, delivered record funding for hospitals and schools, and created more than 200,000 new jobs this year alone.
There is much more work to be done in 2020 to implement our comprehensive agenda.
Our Government will continue to implement reforms to build a stronger economy, create more jobs, keep Australians safe and secure and to guarantee the essentials they rely on.
