Senator the Hon Mathias Cormann

We would like to warmly congratulate our friend and leadership colleague George Brandis on a long and distinguished contribution to Australian politics and the law.

George has served Australia extremely well as Australia’s 36th Attorney-General and has made an outstanding contribution to the Liberal cause in Queensland and nationally over many decades. 

George has played a crucial role in the development and implementation of substantial national reforms in pursuit of the Government’s anti-terrorism agenda, family law reforms, significant reform of our Court system and more recently the development of our new anti-espionage and foreign interference laws.

He also served as one of Australia’s most passionate and committed Ministers for the Arts.

We had the privilege of serving under his leadership in the Senate since September 2015 – a period in which the Coalition Team in the Senate made great progress in securing the passage of major economic, fiscal and national security related reforms through the Senate.

We congratulate George on his future appointment as the High Commissioner to London and look forward to the next chapter in his service to the Australian people.
