Businesses gear up for Western Sydney Airport opportunities
JOINT MEDIA RELEASE

Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate
Senator for Western Australia
The Hon. Paul Fletcher MP

Federal Member for Bradfield
Around 700 industry representatives will gather in Penrith today to find out how they can compete for the range of opportunities being created by the Western Sydney Airport during its construction and operation.
WSA Co, the company established by the Turnbull Government to build the airport, will inform businesses on procurement for the airport main works, enabling works and professional services.
We welcome today’s industry briefing to be held by WSA Co, which demonstrates the company’s intention to secure the best industry has to offer and to develop an airport that Western Sydney can be proud of.
The registrants are from a range of companies looking to be involved in the airport’s delivery, including small to medium enterprises and larger tier one construction companies and follows an industry briefing in June which had more than 500 registrants.
Industries represented at the meeting will include engineering, construction, government, equipment supply, security, accommodation, project management, environment and sustainability.
The number of companies attending these events is reflective of the enormous industry interest in this project, and its significance both locally for Western Sydney and nationally as one of Australia’s largest transport infrastructure projects.
This is an unprecedented opportunity for businesses big and small to get involved and reap the benefits of a project that is set to transform Western Sydney and create tens of thousands of jobs.
Opening in 2026, Western Sydney Airport will be a full-service domestic and international airport with a single runway and capacity for up to 10 million annual passengers in its early years. The airport will expand in line with demand and a second parallel runway is designed to be added in the future.
This airport has been talked about for decades but the Turnbull Government is delivering it, investing up to $5.3 billion in equity in Western Sydney Airport through WSA Co.
WSA Co will recruit and procure the best and brightest to manage the project and industry will be approached through multiple competitive tenders to ensure the best deal in terms of value for money, schedule and risk allocation is made.
WSA Co has already released tenders for airport enabling works including geotechnical investigation and land survey services earlier this year.
Western Sydney Airport will be a catalyst for economic transformation in the region and is expected to support around 28,000 direct and indirect jobs by 2031.
