ASC Board appointments

JOINT MEDIA RELEASE

Senator the Hon. Mathias Cormann
Minister for Finance
Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate
Senator for Western Australia

Date

The Government has reappointed three directors to the Board of ASC Pty Ltd (ASC) for a further three-year term and also made three new appointments.

The reappointments of Dr Rosalind Dubs, Mr Peter Iancov and Mr Paul Rizzo will provide continuity and stability to the ASC Board as it continues to implement the Government’s recently announced structural reforms.

Dr Dubs and Mr Iancov have considerable experience in heavy industrial and engineering projects. Mr Rizzo has significant senior executive experience in a number of major public companies and a strong understanding of Australian shipbuilding and repair practices through previous work in the defence industry.

All three directors were first appointed to the board in 2013 and their valuable contributions will continue to benefit ASC over the coming three years.

The Government has also appointed the Hon Gary Gray AO, Ms Joycelyn Morton and Mr Jeremy Schultz to the ASC Board for three year terms commencing on 1 January 2017.

Mr Gray has significant experience in both government and business and is well known in heavy industry. Gary was a highly regarded former Federal Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister who held senior roles and responsibilities in business before and now after his period in Parliament. He has worked on big projects in oil and gas and is involved in contracting and logistics with highly innovative WA firm Mineral Resources. Gary will make a valuable contribution to the board.

Ms Morton is a highly credentialed director with extensive experience across several industries, in both senior executive and board roles. She currently chairs Thorn Group Limited and sits on a number of ASX listed and government boards, including Snowy Hydro Limited. Her skills will be an asset to the board.

Mr Schultz is a Partner at Finlaysons, specialising in corporate law, and has experience across a range of private boards. Mr Schultz currently chairs the South Australian Institute of Energy. Mr Schultz’s expertise will be very important for the ASC board.

The next 12 months will be a critical period for ASC as the company is separated into three new entities, promoting a more flexible approach to support the Government’s continuous shipbuilding program.

Along with the ASC Chair Bruce Carter and fellow directors, the reappointed and newly appointed directors will play a key role in ensuring that ASC continues to contribute to the strengthening of Australia’s shipbuilding and repair industry into the future.
