Senator the Hon Mathias Cormann

The Government is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Erin Flaherty and Mr Michael Wachtel to the Future Fund Board of Guardians for five years from 3 April 2016.

Ms Flaherty has extensive experience in corporate governance, finance, infrastructure and law, including most recently as Commercial Manager and Deputy Chief Executive at Reliance Rail.

Ms Flaherty is currently an Executive Director at Infrastructure NSW and a member of the advisory boards for North West Rail, Sydney Metro and Sydney Light Rail. Her current appointments include National Chair, Professional Scholarship Selection Committee of the Australian-American Fulbright Commission and Non-Executive Director of the Australian Youth Orchestra.

Mr Wachtel has extensive experience in organisational leadership, finance, risk management and governance, including as a former Chairman (Oceania) of Ernst & Young (EY), where he was also a member of the EY Global Governance Council.

Mr Wachtel is a current member of the EY Global Risk Executive Committee. He also sits on the boards of the Australian Centre for the Moving Image and the St Vincent’s Medical Research Institute.

Ms Flaherty and Mr Wachtel will replace two outgoing Board members, Ms Carol Austin and Mr Stephen Fitzgerald. Ms Austin and Mr Fitzgerald will leave the Future Fund well placed to continue its strong performance in maximising returns over the long term and their service to the Future Fund Board of Guardians is highly appreciated.
