Tony Burke Wrong Again
Senator the Hon. Mathias Cormann
Minister for Finance
Shadow Finance Minister Tony Burke is wrong again with his claims today that changes to fuel indexation will be paid for by petrol stations.
If he wants anyone to take him seriously he will need to start doing his homework and get his facts straight before going out on one of his ill-informed political frolics.
The reintroduction of fuel excise indexation was announced in the Budget five months ago.
Fuel excise is paid by fuel manufacturers and fuel duty is paid by fuel importers.
The revised implementation arrangements we announced yesterday don’t change this in any way shape or form.
Individual petrol stations will not be required to do anything different from what they are doing right now.
Labor can’t get their facts right. Labor in Opposition under the Leadership of Bill Shorten shows every day how they are not only incompetent but also irrelevant.
The Coalition was elected to repair the Budget mess Labor left behind.
We will continue to implement our Budget in an orderly and methodical fashion, as we build a stronger more prosperous economy and repair the Budget.
