ANAO Report: Regulation of Charities by the ACNC
Senator The Hon. Zed Seselja
Assistant Minister for Finance, Charities and Electoral Matters
Today the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) released their report into the Regulation of Charities by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
It has been seven years since the ACNC was established, and throughout those seven years has demonstrated to be an effective regulator.
The Australian Government recently released our response to the ACNC Review, which contained measures to continue to improve the effectiveness of the regulator, whilst strengthening trust in charities and working to reduce unnecessary red tape.
Today’s report by the ANAO has provided further guidance on measures to enhance the effectiveness of the regulator, balancing the need to strengthen trust in the sector and reduce red tape.
I thank the ANAO for their work on this report, and look forward to working with the ACNC on the implementation of the recommendations.
