Board Appointments – National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation

Senator The Hon. Zed Seselja
Assistant Minister for Treasury and Finance

Date

The Government is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Phillip Barresi and Mr Tony De Domenico OAM as part-time members of the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation (NHFIC) Board.

NHFIC is an independent corporate Commonwealth entity dedicated to improving housing outcomes by reducing pressure on housing affordability. Offering loans, investments and grants to encourage investment in housing – with a particular focus on affordable housing – NHFIC is a key part of the Government’s plan to help reduce pressure on housing affordability.

Mr Phillip Barresi has a significant experience in public policy, government, advocacy and stakeholder engagement. Mr Barresi served as Chairman of the Board for Penrite Oil Company and was the Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Users Association of Australia and from 2016 2018. Mr Barresi represented the voice of the four governments (Australia, New Zealand, Korea and Egypt) as a Director at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He also served as a Federal Member for Deakin for 11 years.

Mr Tony De Domenico OAM has deep experience in urban development and higher education. Mr De Domenico recently concluded a four year term as the Independent Chairperson of the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute, and earlier served as the Chair of Place Victoria for three years. Mr De Domenico served on the Board of Latrobe University for six years, including as Deputy Chancellor. He is also a former member of the ACT Legislative Assembly, serving as Deputy Chief Minister between 1995 and 1997, and was awarded an Order of Australia (OAM) in 2018 for services to urban planning, research and development in Victoria.

The appointment of Mr Barresi and Mr De Domenico will broaden the range of skills on the NHFIC Board, as both appointees bring with them a background in government and policy.
