The Government is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Adrian Harrington as part-time Independent Chairperson of the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI). Mr Harrington is also joined by new part-time Independent Directors, Ms Helen Glanville and Ms Karen Synon. All appointments are for a four-year term.

AHURI is a national not-for-profit independent network organisation that conducts, disseminates and tailors high quality research to inform and impact on better housing, homelessness, cities and related urban outcomes. The new Chairperson and Independent Directors will bring a range of skills and experiences from different backgrounds to assist AHURI in its mission to deliver relevant and authoritative research.

Mr Adrian Harrington has more than 25 years of experience in the funds management and real estate industries. He is a non-Executive Director of the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation (NHFIC). Mr Harrington currently serves as an Independent Director on the AHURI Board.

Ms Helen Glanville has a range of experience spanning property, housing and government, including management of property and tenancies in a large public housing portfolio. Ms Glanville is also involved in a social enterprise focused on property management and sales, and a not-for-profit housing company.

Ms Karen Synon is a current member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Ms Synon has worked in a range of community development and education roles and in a senior management role in the Victorian public service, as well as being involved in a not-for-profit.

The Government thanks outgoing Chairperson and Independent Director, Mr Tony De Domenico OAM and Ms Meredith Sussex for their leadership and contribution to the work of AHURI.
